The Nativity Project is back for 2021!

November 29, 2021

29th November – 25th December

A collaborative project by The Friends of Holy Trinity Cathedral and ADJust (Diocese of
Auckland Young Anglicans for Social Justice), the Nativity Project at Holy Trinity Cathedral
seeks to draw attention to an important environmental or social issue each year.

Last year, the inaugural Nativity Project fundraising drive ‘No Room’, in aid of the Auckland City Mission,
collected over 4,500 food items for Aucklanders in need over the holiday season.
The not-so-traditional ‘homeless nativity’ installation which we constructed on the Cathedral forecourt for
our Advent and Christmas period also generated robust and creative dialogue around the challenges and
dangers facing homeless people by drawing parallels with the Christmas story.

This year, we hope to build on the successes of 2020, and we are excited to announce that the theme of the
Nativity Project installation for 2021 will be re-GENERATION: Supporting our native environment.

We are partnering with Trees that Count – Te Rahi o Tāne to raise awareness about the importance of
preserving our unique native environment in Aotearoa New Zealand, and to regenerate that environment by
raising funds to plant native trees.

To engage with The Nativity Project: re-GENERATION, we are asking people to:

– VISIT The Nativity Project: re-GENERATION art
installation on the Holy Trinity Cathedral forecourt
between 29 November to 25 December 2021 in a safe
and socially distanced manner.
– DONATE a native tree/s to our Nativity Project Tree
Registry at:
https://grow.treesthatcount.co.nz/registry/regenerationthenativityproject2021
One native tree costs just $10 to plant.
– Share The Nativity Project: re-GENERATION
information with their communities.

We hope that details of The Nativity Project: reGENERATION might be shared with your community at a
time when many may be looking give a gift to someone,
whether far or near, something that reminds them of the
beauty of Aotearoa, and to offset in a small but
meaningful way the toll the holiday season can have on
our environment by saving on postage and packaging.

Thank you for your consideration and we hope to hear
back from you about being involved with this important
work.

Yours sincerely,
Sarah Wilson
