Sunday services
St. George's at 7pm
Midweek service - 10am Wed
Our services cover a variety of styles. Some use liturgy, silence, and a mix of modern songs and older hymns.
We also have a monthly Gathering for praise, worship and prayer ministry, a monthly Youth service and the Oasis Alt-Worship service approximately monthly.
St George’s church was built in late 1915 through the generosity of a wealthy benefactress and former landowner in the area, Mrs Nelson George. A small group of St Mark’s parishioners had been meeting since 1914 in a converted stable on her property and she felt compelled to provide a more suitable place of worship for them.
In the following years the church grew, the buildings were altered and extended and St George’s was established as a separate parish. In the later part of the 20th century however, the church declined in numbers, although still maintaining a strong musical tradition.
A new era of growth began in 1990. Partly in response to changes happening in the wider church, the style of worship became more informal and evangelistic outreach drew more families into the parish. By 2001 St George’s had become a large church, with its main Sunday morning service bursting at the seams.
The challenge since then has been to continue allowing for growth in all aspects of church life and to structure the staff team and worship times accordingly. St George’s mission statement now recognises that the influence of a gathering of God’s people can extend well beyond the physical boundaries of its parish.
