St G's YOUTH

Who Are We?

St George’s Youth is a Christian youth group for Year 7-13 students. It is led by a large team of youth leaders who are themselves committed to growing in their relationship with Christ and in fellowship with each other. In 2011 our aim is to build relationships with and to walk alongside each other like Jesus did with his disciples. We want to encourage faith that is genuine.

Our Founding Scripture

I pray that your love for each other will overflow more and more, and that you will keep growing in your knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until Christ returns. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation — those good things that are produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God. Philippians 1:9-11

St G's Youth Ministry

St G’s Youth provides Christian ministry for young people from Yrs 7-13. We pride ourselves on our top-notch teaching/discussion on Sunday mornings. There are also a number of other non-Sunday based areas that youth can be involved in. We host a number of social events each term. Additionally, we organise opportunities for youth to serve in the church, through organized mini-missions and through youth band. For keen older youth, a mid-week discussion group is offered.

Sunday Ministry:

On Sunday mornings at both the 9am and 10.45 services youth attend the beginning of the services and are given the option of leaving the service part-way through and participating in a youth-catered teaching and discussion time while the sermon is given. They rejoin the service for communion.

9AM YOUTH

9AM youth is a relaxed discussion and pastoral care session for Yrs 7-13 youth at the 9am service. It is led by the Youth Coordinator.

SPARX (10.45)

Sparx is a group for Yrs 7&8 youth at the 10.45 service. It is led in a prepared lesson by Sparx parents.

ZEAL (10.45)

Zeal caters for Yrs 9&10 youth at the 10.45 service. Zeal is led in a prepared lesson by university age undergraduate students.

DOUBLE EDGE (10.45)

Double Edge is for Yrs 11-13 youth at the 10.45 service. It is led in a prepared lesson by young professionals.

Further Discussion and Outreach

WEDNESDAY GROUP

The Youth Coordinator leads a group of Yrs11-13 students from nearby schools in a relatively open discussion and hang-out session after school on Thursdays in the youth rooms. St G’s youth members are welcome to come and participate in this too.

Other Ministry

There are a mixture of social events and serving opportunities that happen during the week over the course of the school term for youth to hang out together and bring their friends to.

Social

SPARX ON FRIDAY

Sparx on Friday is a Friday night social night for Yrs 7&8. They are held four-ish times a term at the houses of Sparx parents. Young adults lead the youth in games and a short bible study. Dinner is also provided.

MIXED SOCIALS

Mixed socials are organized a couple of times a term by a team of university age students. They are quite relaxed and low-key and are for to Yrs 9-13 youth.

GIRLS SOCIALS

These are planned by a team of young adult females and are for Yrs 9-13 girls only. They happen once a term.

MAN SOCIALS

These are planned by a team of young adult males and are for Yrs 9-13 boys only. They also happen once a term.

BUM (Backyard Urban Mission)

These are organized opportunities for the youth to volunteer in different mini-missions. They might be volunteering opportunities through different community organizations or they might be opportunities to serve within the church.

YOUTH BAND

The youth band meets on Friday afternoons. They practice worship songs together and have opportunities to lead sung worship during the morning and evening Sunday services.
